A fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Steven Howell specializes in comprehensive medical eye care for children, including surgery to correct eye-muscle imbalance and the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eyes. He also provides eye-muscle surgery, and strabismus treatment to adults.
Dr. Howell sees patients at KPOS, and performs surgery at Kosairs Children's Hospital and Jewish Hospital Medical Center East.
Dr. Howell is originally from Bowling Green, Kentucky and attended Bowling Green High School. Dr. Howell graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Louisville, graduating summa cum laude and as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

After serving his internship at University of Louisville Hospital, Dr. Howell received his residency training in ophthalmology at the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and completed an additional year of specialized training in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Howell also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville as well as the University of Kentucky where he enjoys teaching future ophthalmologists. Dr. Howell is a member of the Greater Louisville Medical Society, the Kentucky Medical Association, the American Association of Ophthalmology and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
He and his wife Heather are the proud parents of their son Teague and daughter Juliana. |
